As the old saying goes, "no hoof, no horse". Knowledge of the parts of the horses hoof and reasonable management of the hoof will help to ensure that your horse will stay productive.
Bars - the thick, raised portions of the inner wall near either side of the wall.
Cleft of the Frog - the central groove of the frog.
Coronary Band - the narrow band at the hair line from which the hoof wall grows.
Frog - elastic tissue that divides the sole into halves and helps circulate the blood in the foot back to the heart.
Heel - the back of the foot.
Sole - the bottom surface of the foot.
Wall - the outer portion of the foot. Made up of the periolple, the cornium and the laminae.
White Line - connector of the sole and the wall.
